Protest art

This term we have been learning about the ways people bring about change. In particular we have focused on the 1981 Springbok Tour. As part of this we are creating some Protest art. Have a look at some of the great pieces of artwork we are creating. Most of them are anti the tour and some are anti apartheid.

End ball tournament

Today Room 6 finally got to play their first game of endball against another class. The opposing team was Room 5. We were a little disappointed that we didnt win but everyone involved (including our cheerleaders) had a fantastic time. Well done Room 6! You played well.
Here are some photos of the game.
Some team spirit to begin!

3 cheers for the winning team. Well done Room 5.

Poetry practice

Today in Room 6 we played a drama game to help us with our speaking and hand gestures, ready for poetry recitals. Have a look at some of us having a go saying a poem while someone else does the hand gestures to match. It was heaps of fun!!

And now we present to you.... Ben the amazing 4 armed comedian!!!...

It seems he got VERY excited about his story. I am certainly looking forward to hearing Ben's poetry recital!
Well done also to Pete for the added hand gestures.

Try this poem riddle

I am small as an ant and big as a whale,
I can soar through the air like a bird with a tail.
I can be seen by day and not by night,
I can be seen with a big flash of light.
I follow whoever controls me by the sun,
but I fade away when dark fell like a ton.
What am I?

Room 6's tree of acknowledgement

In Room 6 we like to acknowledge all of the fantastic things each other does in and out of the classroom. We do this by writing notes on leaves and sticking them onto our tree of acknolwedgement.
This is what our tree looks like so far!

Some of the comments on it so far are...

We will keep you updated as the tree continues to grow!!!

Inferring

At reading time we have been learning how to infer. On Tuesday, one of our groups made inferences about the poem "Power" by Tui Matelau. What can you infer from the poem? Write a comment about what you can infer about the character, and the message the author is trying to portray. What can you infer about the relationship between Manu and the narrator/character? What clues help you to know how the narrarator/character is feeling?

Power
I have the power to change the world.

Every day,
on my way to school,
I power up my battery.
I know I look funny,
but my job is very important.
With my backpack on
and my sandels flapping,
I power up.

When I walk through the school gates,
I'm ready.
Manu says hi, waving,
and I put my power to use.
I stand up tall and proud,
lift my hand,
and SMILE!
Manu SMILES back.

I have the power to change the world.

Poetry recitals

In room 6 we have been reading and writing a lot of poetry! We have been doing this because later on in the term we will all be reciting poems to our class. The best from our class will compete with the best from rooms 3, 4 and 5 in week 9 THEN the best from the syndicate will compete with the rest of year 7 in week 10 of term 1! We will be doing lots of practicing of our speaking skills through fun games and activities over the next few weeks to ensure that room 6 blows everyone away with our AMAZING poetry reciting skills!!!
We will keep you updated with our progress throughout the term :)
